... and it's the little grey hen who leads the way

Three little chickens, all in a row. Magic.

Is that a Blue Orpington?

I wish, Celia ... it's something smaller, a hybrid called a Bluebelle, which I wouldn't have bought in a million years, but my husband just went out and did it - and I'm pleased, because they are particularly friendly ... but I miss my Orpingtons

Bluebells are lovely Joanna. But I know what you mean - I was devastated when we lost our Orps and Cochins. To be safe we were advised to restock with vaccinated birds, I thought hybrids would be boring. But they're all lovely and very friendly.

I'm sure they'll give you loads of pleasure and fresh eggs :-)

So jealous. I want chickens so badly but I can't because of living where I do. Please post about them often, they are so pretty.

Thank you toffeeapple - it's easy to post about the hens, as they are such fun, and live outside the kitchen window. My sons think they will have a short life, though, because they found them in the wood yesterday - the wood where the foxes live. But I still can't bear to keep them caged.
